Columbus Clippers (good) Web Calendar

I’m a huge baseball fan. Now that I’m a Columbus(ian?) I’m a Clippers fan.
(Their website is good, but not great and I would LOVE to help them make it awesome – shameless plug)

I am SO VERY EXCITED for the new Huntington Park and my ability to walk to it.

I use Google Calendar for everything. Their web calendar is ok, but annoying. I applaud their abillity to exportas a .csv but its even more useful for me as a Shared Google Calendar.

So I whipped it together. View the calendar first if you want to just check it out.

To subscribe in Google Calendar, on the left, under “Other calendars”, go to “Add”, then select “Add by URL”

Then Enter:

http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/k8765gqc9drbtqtpgjvmd4ktvg%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

And voila, now you can be just like me and check every day to see if you want to go to the game that night.

Baseball – Two weeks until pitchers and catchers report

I first learned about this book from The Leopard Lopate show on WNYC. It took me nearly six months to get around to reading it, and boy was it worth it. Zack has a contagious passion for the sport, a great sense of humor and shares his encyclopedic, but never boring, breadth of knowledge about baseball rules and strategies and oddities. I am interested anything that is shared with passion, but its even better when it inspires my own, semi-dormant passions. Highly recommended to anybody with even a slight interest in baseball.

Combined with the news that the mets signed Johan Santana, and I’m getting very excited about this season.

Barry Bonds ball donated to Cooperstown, with asterisk.Â But, the interesting part, to quote from the article:

“Pete Nash, a baseball historian who was also one of the members of 3rd Bass, a defunct rap group, said writing on baseballs dates from the 1850s.”

Wikipedia link mine, which reveals a great tidbit of 3rd Bass trivia: “3rd Bass is credited with discovering Nas”

There you have it, from Barry Bonds -> 3rd Bass -> Nas.

I think that’s funny.
