The last new bike I bought was a Trek, which was stolen when a good friend borrowed it and left it unlocked in Middlebury. I then used my dads old bike for several years until I moved and gave it to my old boss.  Since then I’ve been sharing my girlfriends bike.  I’ve turned this into an idealogical struggle, trying to evaluate what my bike says about me, etc, etc.  A new sweet bike shop opened up a few blocks from me.  I spotted one I really liked, but right now didn’t want to spend several hundred on a new bike to then worry about.

I learned about the Third Hand Coop at the screening of Bike Porn and first checked it out this past Saturday.

$70 dollars later, I’ve got this sweet ride.  It’s a ’64, or so says the Sturmey-Archer Hub.  I had to fix the rear brakes a bit, but the great volunteers at Third Hand did an excellent job!
