Funny idea for a talk, I love the idea that Elitism ruins the movement.

Thom Yorke and Weird Al Working on Album Together « Hard ‘N Phirm Industries

a boy can dream, can’t he? FYI – I once wrote to the Weird Al fanzine (the Volcano Worshippers) about Chris Hardwick (from Hard N’ Phirm) singing a few bars from Al’s song Another One Rides The Bus during an episode of Singled Out.

Recife to Salvador to Curitiba

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I am sitting in an Internet cafe in Morretes, Parana which for those keeping score at home is a crazy three hour train ride (through some seemingly impassable spaces) from Curitiba. Â

Since I last wrote, we returned to Joao Pessoa, took a bus to Recife. Were thinking of staying in Recife to see the oldest synagogue in the Americas, but decided it wasnt worth the day so we caught the overnight bus to Salvador. I bought a bunch of records, and a cuica (which I will hapily play for anybody anytime once I return to the States) Its a pretty bizarre, yet totally amazing place. And you can buy random handmade gifts ina market once used for slaves.

Then yesterday we flew to Curitiba, marveled in its extraordinary public transportation system (urban planning orgasm***) went to the Niemeyer museum and walked around with some awesome crowds of people. Southern Brasil is SO much different than the northeast. The accent is cooler (imho) and everything is much more European-seeming. There is also *gasp* infrastructure, such as consistently paved roads, and futuristic bus terminals…

Next Up: Floripa tomorrow for two nights, then Flying to Rio on the 11th for four nights, then two days in Sao Paolo and back to NYC! Love you all, and please email me at bazoomercom at gmail with your address if you would like a postcard…. Ive sent out a bunch, but they probably wont arrive until who knows when….

Lots of photos to come when I am using my own computer…Â

Also, a note about some parties:Â

**FINAL EAST COAST APPEARANCE**
Party in New York on Friday, August 17, details to follow.Â
Party round two, Columbus OH, August 24

I don’t really have enough time to post more pictures or description, but lessons learned:

  • When tour books say don’t drive at night in Brazil, listen to them.
  • Roads that are not on maps usually involve very tiny wooden bridges.
  • Having not seen any tourists for almost 2 months makes you resent and hate them when you do.
  • The Sand Dunes in Genipabu (Natal) are totally incapable of being captured on film, especially with emocao.
  • I actually now feel like I’m on vacation, actually being away from computers for extended periods of time and exploring Brazil
  • Although still applying for jobs in Columbus.
  • By the way, if you are reading this and want to send me a voicemail, feel free to give me a call at 614-FOGHAT1 [heh]
