Jane Siberry has created a fascinating new experiment in online music sales. Outlined here by freakonomics co-writer Stephen Dubner, the site offers four options for purchasing songs, and they are as follows:

  • free (gift from Jane)
  • self-determined (pay now)
  • self-determined (pay later so you are truly educated in your decision)
  • standard (today’s going rate is about .99)

I hope we are getting to the point where recording is really just used as promotional material for a live show, and for an artist’s documentation of changing creative stages. More to come soon…
